Why This Policy Exists
Crystals occupy a fascinating and sometimes contentious space: they are simultaneously objects of rigorous geological science and deeply personal spiritual tools used by millions of people worldwide. At Brie & Marie, we operate in both worlds — and we take both seriously.
This editorial policy explains how we approach content about crystal properties, healing claims, and metaphysical traditions. It exists to protect you, to maintain our integrity, and to meet the standards set by search engines and consumer protection guidelines for honest, helpful content.
What We Believe
We believe three things simultaneously, and we don't see them as contradictory:
- Crystals are extraordinary geological objects. Their formation, structure, optical properties, and chemical composition are scientifically documented and genuinely fascinating. We love mineralogy.
- Metaphysical traditions around crystals are culturally significant and personally meaningful. Crystal healing, chakra work, and energy practices have deep roots in multiple cultures and are part of the lived experience of a large and growing community. We respect these traditions.
- Anecdotal experience is not the same as clinical evidence. We will not claim that any crystal can diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. That would be dishonest — and potentially harmful.
How We Write About Crystal Properties
Geological & Mineralogical Claims
When we describe a crystal's hardness, chemical composition, crystal system, optical properties, or geological origin, we are stating documented scientific fact. These claims are sourced from mineralogical references including the Mineralogical Society of America, GIA gemological data, and peer-reviewed geology literature. We stand behind these statements fully.
Metaphysical & Energetic Properties
When we describe a crystal's metaphysical associations — its traditional use for protection, love, abundance, clarity, or healing — we are describing cultural and spiritual traditions, not scientific claims. We use language that reflects this distinction:
- We say: "Amethyst has long been associated with calm and spiritual clarity in crystal healing traditions."
- We do not say: "Amethyst will reduce your anxiety."
- We say: "Black tourmaline is traditionally used as a protective stone."
- We do not say: "Black tourmaline blocks electromagnetic radiation."
This distinction matters. It allows us to honor the richness of crystal traditions while being honest about the nature of those claims.
Wellness & Skincare Claims
For products like gua sha tools and face rollers made from rose quartz or jade, we describe the physical technique (lymphatic drainage massage, facial muscle stimulation) which has documented benefits — and we attribute any additional properties to the stone's traditional associations, not clinical outcomes.
Our Standard Disclaimer
All metaphysical properties described on this site and in our blog reflect cultural and spiritual traditions associated with crystals and gemstones. They are not intended as medical advice and should not replace professional medical care. Crystals are not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment of any health condition.
We include this disclaimer not because we dismiss what you experience with your crystals — but because we respect you enough to be honest.
